Provo Valley Half

I had an early morning wake up call at 3am. I needed to be in Provo to catch the bus up the Canyon by 4am.
*Note to self: sign up for races that don't require you to be awake before the crack of dawn

I picked up my SIL and her neighbor  and we were on our way. We got onto the buses super fast and were at the starting line within 25 min. We stood by the fires provided to stay warm and then met up with some of Whitney's neighbor where I ran into John, the winner of 2 seasons ago Biggest Loser!! I'm a big fan of the show, so it was awesome to meet him.

the night before at the expo picking up our bib #'s
Me and Whitney had a plan to stay with the 2 hour pacer and we stayed with the group for a long time. I'm so proud of us for running the whole time and not giving up. We finished in 2:06, and I'm not disappointed, Whitney and I started together and we finished strong together. I loved having Whitney to run with, she really gave it her all and inspired me.

Personally, I felt really good for most of the race. It wasn't until the last 1.5 or so miles that was really hard mentally. I could see the finish line and it just didn't seem to be getting any closer. I started thinking negative thoughts until the crowds of people really helped motivate me to keep up the pace and power through.

The last stretch when I started sprinting was the best feeling, I had worked and trained so hard for this. I wanted to leave everything I had on the pavement.  I'm proud of myself, but I think I still have a lot of room to improve so I signed up for the Big Cottonwood Canyon Half Mararthon this September to really see how hard I can work.

I really appreciate my husband for all his support and helping with Jackson while I was training. Not to mention the morning of the race, (J got up at 5:30am ready to play!). And I'm grateful for all the supportive words and love from family and friends. I know my family wanted to be there but I felt you in spirit=)

  1. You really are incredible! I'm so so proud of you! I've been running this past week and a half, and yesterday I ran for 3 minutes straight and practically died. So once again, you're awesome!!
